As a photographer, I get to beautifully capture moments for people in their lives that they otherwise wouldn't be able to do themselves.  Helping people make and preserve memories for their families to enjoy for generations to come is a huge responsibility, blessing and honor to me, and most of that for me comes in the form of weddings.  But this time, when I was contacted by Nancy and Jeff for a last minute weekend shoot with their kids and grandkids, I couldn't say no.  Their family were only together for a few days, and they had a very short window to be together since everyone is spread across the country, and who knows how long it would be before they were all together again.  So we set a plan to meet at Portland Head Light for this precious reunion.  

When I arrived, I was so excited to see how coordinated everyone was!  Getting 16 people to coordinate their clothes perfectly is not an easy feat, but they pulled it off flawlessly. We call that a win in the industry!  Not only were they well-coordinated, but everyone was so beautiful - it was like I was shooting for a catalogue of some kind with everyone being so photogenic.  It certainly made things easier, and was such a blast to be a part of this moment in time with these folks, and to craft these images for them.  I felt right at home, and was stunned at how similar everything was to how I shoot families at my weddings.  Things flowed so organically from one point to the next, it was hard for me to believe I was working with such a large group.  We shot until the rain started to sprinkle, and I think we got some amazing shots of all of these adorable troopers (older troopers included!).  In my experience with these folks, it occurred to me that even though I am a wedding photographer, in reality, I am a family photographer.  I document important moments in families' lives.  And if you know anything about me by now, you know that to me, family is paramount.
