So my first Maine wedding last week went just incredible. The intimate ceremony was on the beach, which made for some awesome pictures for their family. My exposure was dead on and I'm not going to lie - I pretty much crushed it.

So my first Maine wedding last week went just incredible. The intimate ceremony was on the beach, which made for some awesome pictures for their family. My exposure was dead on and I'm not going to lie - I pretty much crushed it.
Today's the day - my wedding season has officially begun! There are a lot of firsts for me today - first wedding in Maine, first wedding of the season, and most of all, the first wedding all on my own. I'm not going go lie, the butterflies are flying and my heart has been pounding all morning. I'm not sure if that's nerves or the espresso talking. Today marks a great victory - a mark of success that I can do this, and that I have what it takes. I have put the hours in, I know my gear and my lighting, and I am ready. I am ready for the official birth of my career!
o if you live in Southern Maine, it's basically mandatory that you are outside every day the weather is agreeable in the springtime. It's incredible. If you have not been here in late spring or summer, get your biscuits up here, YESTERDAY.
At Sawyer & Co Florist in downtown Portland, Maine, of course! I got called in to my favorite flower shop by Francisco who was excited about some new blooms that came in, and he also wanted me to meet a designer I hadn't met yet named Erik. Oh my gosh, so glad I came in! I did a double take when I walked in and found all the spring cleaning and decorating had been completed, new, vibrant colors of glass bottles and collectibles glittered on the shelves, and there was just an increase to the store's already welcoming atmosphere. Francisco greeted me with his usual awesomeness, as sounds of Nat King Cole's timeless voice (swoon) filled the bright and airy shop. So perfect!
Francisco took me around back to meet the wonderful and very knowledgeable designer, Erik, who was carefully hand-crafting a beautiful twig wreath in preparation for a local church's Easter celebration. Francisco was not conservative in his approbation for Erik's deep knowledge of flowers, and skill set with them. I was quite impressed, especially coming from such an accomplished designer as himself! Then it was time for me to get cracking. I took a quick visual tour of the fresh blooms and arrangements and let me tell you, this wedding photographer was inspired. The variety of these colors and blooms are just amazing to me! There are even some gorgeous flowers that look like they could be used as official Colorado Rockies (don't hate) flowers, absolutely gorgeous with their purple and white hues! Take a look at the resulting shots and leave a comment - which ones are your favorite?
We had fun visiting our friends at L&L Jewelers in South Portland the other day. The owners, Andre and Irena were kind enough to let us use some of their gorgeous jewelry as models for the day. There are some absolutely beautiful pieces with accents of blue, which no bride should be without on her wedding day!
When you're looking for a wedding photographer, it's important to note their attention to detail. Now, I'm not talking about their ability to write impeccable literary masterpieces or making sure their blog grammar is 100% on point (but they should at least know the difference between your & you're, then & than, to & too, their, they're and there....just sayin').
I'm excited to release my very first YouTube video. I had a blast, and hope you can take something away from it. Maybe I should go into acting....probably not. LOL I digress. And....action!
Yesterday was yet another warm and sunny day setting a great tone for shooting some more amazing flowers at Sawyer & Company Florist in downtown, Portland Maine! I didn't even need my jacket at a balmy 50˚.
I'm sure you are all well-aware of the glorious season upon us that is of the Girl Scout Cookie. OH my word, I have been going back and forth between Tag Alongs and Thin Mints as my faves ever since the 5th grade. Still haven't decided.
I was sure pleased with myself since I had left for my appointment at Sawyer & Company Florist this morning having planned enough time to get across the Casco Bay Bridge, then on into downtown Portland Maine with some to spare...or so I thought.
Here it was, the Monday after Valentine's Day. The "blizzard" here in Southern Maine was over, and the holiday rush through. Since Valentine's Day is pretty much like Black Friday for flower shops, I was hesitant that I would even be able to reach anyone today, and especially since it is President's day.
I had such an amazing time in downtown Portland, Maine today getting my head shots done!! Patrick Jones is just plain awesome, and I was so excited that we were able to work together for my personal brand images!
So this little beaut was a fun details shoot with some new gear. The cool part about this to me is the actual box the ring is sitting on. It's a cool old original box of 1890's glass photo negatives from a Maine photographer of the era.
I'm doing it! I've officially started my own wedding photography business!
These past several months of intense planning and collaboration were the first steps for the culmination of my extensive business background and absolute need for creativity in my life coming together in a career where I can breathe fresh air and use my wide range of gifts! Now is the time!
